StoryWorks Freedom Scholars
Amana Wallace was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi and is currently living Alligator, Mississippi. Homeschooled by her parents she plans to go to college and study musical theatre and art. She has spent the past year as a StoryWorks Freedom Scholar, volunteering at the local animal shelter, participating in food drives and working as a lifeguard. Amana wanted to be a part of StoryWorks to learn more about investigative journalism and the playwriting process.
Aaniya Hoskins was born in Cleveland, Mississippi and raised in Shaw. She currently attends Shaw High School. After graduating, she plans on attending college in hopes of becoming an OBGYN. Aaniya loves to engage with her community by volunteering at Delta Hands for Hope, local retirement centers and the Bolivar County Library. She became a StoryWorks Freedom Scholars to learn more about the history of Shaw and the Civil Rights movement.
Miles Bernson was born in San Francisco, California and is spending his summer in Mississippi as a StoryWorks Freedom Scholar, learning blues guitar and volunteering at a local animal shelter. He loves spending his summers in the Delta making friends, playing music and learning about the brave people who fought for civil rights. This fall Miles will be a sixth-grader at Francisco Middle School in San Francisco and will be playing the role of Puck in his theater club's performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream.
Ariya Moore was born in Cleveland, Mississippi and raised in Shaw. She is a Headstart graduate and attends McEvars Middle School. Ariya spent 2018 living in Memphis and going to school. She was happy to return to Shaw this summer and has been enjoying her time with family and joining the StoryWorks Freedom Scholars. Ariya loves to hang out with her friends and dance, listen to music and make jokes. Ariya loves Shaw and can't wait for Homecoming and the Hawkins v. Shaw Anniversary celebration.
